Inside the Burton Family Abode
Sometimes a home has a story to tell—it just needs a little coaxing. That was the case with our Westover Hills project, which first caught our eye in 2019. Despite its '60s-era charm, this two-story ranch was weighed down by dated materials and design choices. But beneath that, we also saw some incredible potential. Mike and I bought the home and embraced it as a personal project for our family, modernizing the space with natural textures, rich wood finishes, and details that reflect its Texas roots.
Five years later, we're honored and humbled to celebrate the home’s recent feature in Southern Living and invite you into the creative process behind its transformation.

An Expedited Renovation Timeline
Not ones to shy away from a challenge (and quite honestly not having the financial flexibility at the time to do anything else) we took on this renovation with a nearly impossible timeline—three months, to be exact. During that time, we focused on installing wide-plank French white oak flooring and reconfiguring the kitchen to improve flow and functionality. Along the way, we carefully balanced modern updates with rustic, time-worn touches, creating a space that feels fresh yet soulful.

"Blair leveraged her signature combination of natural textures and art to maximum effect."

Hill Country Meets Modern Warmth
Warm neutrals and vibrant patterns brought cohesion and character to every corner of the home. We layered in handpicked antiques and curated original art, adding depth and personality to each room. We emphasized natural materials like wood, terracotta, and iron that ultimately brought this home back to life.

A Calling Expressed in My Own Home
While it is certainly wonderful to have a project — any project — featured in a magazine like Southern Living, the real satisfaction comes from knowing that the people living within its walls can settle deeply into themselves, deeply into the mysterious sense of being truly home. I cherish these reports when I receive them from my clients. And I trust that they are true.
But in this home, in my own home, I didn't need anyone to tell me that was happening. I could see it. I could feel it.
I did my job.
